Wu Xing - the metamorphoses of being
My body of work Wu Xing in Chinese and feng shui or the 5 Elements started out as a personal quest to find my sense of balance in life and my energetic transformation or also known as qi in Taoism.
It is my belief that in today’s modern society many have lost a sense of connection to nature and no longer are able to feel such resonance in their being as an individual as well as on a cosmic level. Hence, I began looking into feng shui natural principles of the five elements, namely Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water in their respective order of Wu Xing (note: in presenting my series, however, I start with Fire as this particular element inspired me the most).
I discovered that there are different types of energy in a constant state of interactions with one another. It is often not obvious to many but specific elements, shapes, colors, textures have an overall influence on our well being and even people fall into one or more of these five elements. It is our benefit getting as many of these different energies to work together to find harmony. It was this, the constant interaction and flux of ups and downs, the phases, steps and movements, the processes and transformation of each particular works that I learned not only as an artist but as a whole that it is not the end results that are important but the processes and what we learn along the way that bring about a sense of serenity.
I am by no means an expert on this subject as it takes years and years to master and truly understand the teachings. I am merely an artist that have been moved on the concept of Wu Xing and in my own personal interpretations how I felt about each elements as I tried to convey my own personal view on them.
About my Process
My Wu Xing body of works have evolved through long processes, metamorphoses and transformation resulting from numerous layering colors, materials, then a drying period, then adding another layer and even stripping them away to create interesting textures, depth and colors.
